Clapham Common North Side was built in 1860 as part of a stunning pair of terraces for wealthy city businessmen and their families wanting to live outside the City, but within easy reach. The Common was a good source of firewood and water and views over it commanded a respectable premium. Colony designed a full top-to-bottom restoration of the house, bringing it back into a truly marvellous family home. The outside has been faithfully restored to give a bold and impressive frontage, with new screens and restored railings. The interior, including original painted ceilings and gilded plasterwork, has been painstakingly restored by specialist conservators. Sensitive design retained and enhanced the glorious architectural features of the original house, while modern attitudes allowed the inclusion of state-of-the-art technology. This work returned this unique house to its rightful status as one of London’s finest dwellings. The house was a lead property in FT Property article showcasing five of Europe’s best homes for sale with frescoes. CCNS was the only UK property on the list.
“The knowledge of the team around the planning process and the guidance regarding heritage elements were first-rate. They were able to successfully navigate planning and listed building consents without refusals. Their technical knowledge around planning, delivering, and finishing on a project of this scale is industry leading.”
