The Old Vicarage was built in 1859 as a dwelling for the parish vicar. As was common, there was also a connected school hall where local children would come to be educated. Colony was commissioned to redesign the house from a tired but spacious 8-bedroom dwelling into a fully modern and comfortable 5-suite home with room to accommodate the clients’ family and international friends. After several design proposals, it was decided to “flip” the house, repositioning the kitchen and, crucially, the staircase, so that the social rooms were grouped and the garden correctly addressed. The new staircase opened up the fantastic stone arched windows, and brought light into the new heart of the house. A new basement was dug (by hand!) and the glorious presence was reinstated.
“an eclectic look with some wow factors is what we had in mind… loving it all!”
